Participants in the Klausen Monument conquer the legendary Klausen Pass on the car-free mountain pass road. This cycling event combines a athletic challenge with breathtaking views of the Glarus Alps.

The car-free cycling day on one of the most beautiful Alpine passes in Switzerland

On Sunday, 13 September 2026, the Klausen Pass will once again be exclusively for cyclists. Between Linthal and Unterschächen, the pass road will be closed to motorised traffic from 10.00 to 16.00 hours.

The KLAUSEN MONUMENT has established itself in recent years as one of the largest car-free cycling events in Switzerland. Every year, several thousand cyclists take advantage of the unique opportunity to experience the Klausen Pass on a closed road. The combination of a sporting challenge, impressive scenery and a relaxed atmosphere makes the event a special experience for participants from all over Switzerland and beyond.

Anyone can take part, regardless of age or fitness level. Whether you ride a racing bike, gravel bike, mountain bike or e-bike, the KLAUSEN MONUMENT is for everyone who enjoys cycling. The start is individual, either from Linthal or Unterschächen. There is no timing system, the focus is on the shared experience and enjoying the unique mountain scenery.

The route leads to the Klausen Pass, which is 1,948 metres above sea level. Along the way, participants can expect impressive views of the Glarner and Urner Alps and the Urnerboden, the largest alpine pasture in Switzerland. This makes crossing the pass a unique nature and cycling experience for individuals, families, groups of friends and clubs alike.

The KLAUSEN MONUMENT association wants to give as many people as possible the unique opportunity to experience the Klausen Pass car-free, safely and for free for one day. Registration via www.klausen-monument.ch is recommended.
