Forest fire risk in the canton of Glarus remains high
Department of Construction and Environment • The Forest and Natural Hazards Division assesses the current forest fire risk as high. Fires in and near forests remain prohibited.
Outdoor fire activities still pose a significant risk of forest or field fires. The rainfall over the last two days was not enough to reduce the danger in the entire canton. Widespread rainfall over several days and across the entire canton is needed to improve the situation.
The increasing dryness of the vegetation makes it highly flammable in forests and near forests. Sparks from a fire, fireworks or carelessly discarded smoking materials can cause a fire and lead to a larger forest fire. The weather forecast predicts rising temperatures and little to no further rainfall.{02000C0}
Fire ban in forests and near forests
To protect the forests and the population, the canton of Glarus issued a fire ban in forests and near forests on 25 June 2026. In consultation with Glarnersach, the burning of fireworks is also prohibited throughout the canton. The ban remains in effect for the entire canton and will remain in place until revoked by the canton of Glarus.
The fire ban includes the following measures:
- no fires in the forest and in the forest area (50 metres from the forest)
- no fireworks (entire canton)
- no sky lanterns (entire canton)
- no discarding of smoking materials
What is still allowed?
