Department of Construction and Environment • The Forest and Natural Hazards Division assesses the current forest fire risk as very high. Fires in and near forests remain prohibited.

Outdoor fire activities still pose a significant risk of forest or field fires. The rainfall over the last two days was not sufficient to reduce the danger situation across the entire canton. Widespread rainfall over several days and across the entire canton is required to improve the situation.

The flammability of the increasingly dry vegetation remains high in the forest and in the vicinity of the forest. Sparks from a fire, fireworks or carelessly discarded smoking materials can cause a fire and lead to a larger forest fire.

Absolute ban on outdoor fires

To protect the forests and the population, the canton of Glarus issued a ban on fires in the forest and in the vicinity of the forest on 25 June 2026. In consultation with Glarnersach, the burning of fireworks is also prohibited throughout the canton. The ban remains in place for the entire canton and will remain in effect until revoked by the canton of Glarus.
