Since 1 January 2025, all overnight guests in Glarnerland are entitled to receive the GlarnerlandPass (guest card) when they check in at their accommodation. From the very first overnight stay, free public transport for the canton of Glarus is included in the package, which is a big step towards a sustainable Glarnerland.

Frequently asked questions

How can I benefit from the GlarnerlandPass?

All guests who stay one night or more in the canton of Glarus and pay the individual guest tax will receive the GlarnerlandPass from their accommodation. If you would like the GlarnerlandPass but have not received it, please contact your accommodation.

They will then need an e-mail address from you to send you the registration form. Ideally, you should apply for the GlarnerlandPass before you arrive so that you can benefit from the very first day. Please contact your accommodation no earlier 3 days before your arrival if they do not contact you themselves.

When is the GlarnerlandPass valid?

The GlarnerlandPass for overnight guests is valid from the day of arrival to the day of departure.

Your host can send you a self-check-in link by e-mail before your departure so that you and any accompanying persons can make the most of the offer.

Do I have to print out the GlarnerlandPass?

No, it's best to use the GlarnerlandPass app directly.

In most cases, you will receive the GlarnerlandPass by e-mail. You can then import it directly into the app. If you would still like to receive it as a PDF, you still have the option of printing it out or simply saving it on your mobile phone.

For GlarnerlandPass groups: These cannot be imported into the app. You can either print out the pass or use it as a PDF on your mobile phone.

How can I import the GlarnerlandPass into the app?

There are different ways:

  1. Import link in e-mail: After your registration form has been entered by your accommodation or via the self-check-in form, you will receive an e-mail with the GlarnerlandPass max. 7 days before arrival. This email contains a direct import link. If you have already registered the app, you can import the pass directly.

  2. Guest profile: Have you registered yourself using the self-check-in form and used your guest profile? In this case, your GlarnerlandPasses are saved in your profile. Log in to the app and your passes will be imported automatically.


  3. Import code on PDF: You have a PDF of the GlarnerlandPass. You will find the import code under the QR code, which you can then import directly into the Wallet in the GlarnerlandPass app.

Information for group GlarnerlandPasses: These cannot be imported into the app. You can either print out the pass or use it as a PDF on your mobile phone.

Which zones are covered by free public transportation?

Ostwind-zones 990, 991, 901, 902, 903, 904, 905, 906, 907, 908, 909, 910, 911 and 912.
This means from Bilten, Ziegelbrücke, Mühlehorn to Obererbs or Urnerboden Dorf.

Does the free public transport offer also apply to dogs or bicycles?

No, for dogs and other chargeable items, the standard Ostwind conditions apply.

Information for groups travelling by public transport - reservation required

For groups travelling with more than 10 people, SBB requires reservations.

Especially for groups travelling by bus, transport cannot be guaranteed without a reservation, as transport capacity is limited.

For reservations within the canton of Glarus:

Reservations can be made online on the SBB website or at a ticket counter or by telephone (SBB Contact Centre 0848 44 66 88 (CHF 0.08/min.)) Important when booking online: You need a SwissPass login, which anyone can apply for. In addition, guests with a guest card must simply state that they have a GA travelcard so that no fare is charged.

For reservations with ticket purchase outside the canton of Glarus:

In order to benefit from the group discount, the group journey must be booked at least 2 working days before departure.

For groups with the GlarnerlandPass who only require a ticket to Ziegelbrücke but the reservation to the destination, please purchase the reservation and the public transport ticket at a public transport sales point or via the SBB Contact Centre on 0848 44 66 88 (CHF 0.08/min.) and refer to the GlarnerlandPass.

GlarnerlandPass for groups - Braunwald funicular railway ticket exchange

This applies to groups travelling with the Group GlarnerlandPass and therefore only have one pass with the number of people written on it.

For the Braunwald funicular railway, the GlarnerlandPass must be presented at the ticket counter. You will then receive the appropriate number of tickets so that you can all pass through the turnstile.

For all individual travellers with personal GlarnerlandPasses, the turnstile can be passed directly with the GlarnerlandPass by scanning the QR code.
