Folds on the Magerrain
How enormous forces lead to the formation of the Alps can be deducted from the folds on the Magerrain.
The summit area of the Magerrain is made up of thick layers of folded limestone and calcareous rock from the Jurassic period. Towards the Wissmilen Pass, the layers become thinner and the folds smaller at the same time - a fine example of how strongly the character of the rock shaped the deformation in the subsoil.
