Visitor Centre UNESCO world heritage TectonicArena Sardona, Glarus

Exciting facts about the UNESCO World Heritage Site Tectonic Arena Sardona, the formation of mountains and their function as a habitat for humans and nature.

The exhibition is designed to be more interactive and playful and at the same time aimed at geology enthusiasts and families.

The following can be found in the exhibition:

  • Text and video stations on the UNESCO World Heritage Site, its research history and the formation of mountains.
  • Large-format map of geological sights in the canton of Glarus
  • Revolving tower with games and puzzles about life in the mountains.
  • Seasonal change objects on current topics
  • Tablet with information for in-depth study
  • Information material, literature and shop articles

The visitor centre in Glarus is located in the rooms of the Glarus Nature Centre and is the starting point for the geological city walk through Glarus.

With the Glarus Visitor Centre, an important tandem for the future of the Sardona World Heritage Site and the Glarus region has been created at the two locations Glarus (in the nature centre, Glarus railway station building) and Elm (in the old schoolhouse, Sandgasse 1, Elm).

The Glarus site will soon provide facts about the World Heritage Site, the formation of mountains and their function as habitats and points the way to geological sights.

Elm is the place of in-depth study of the questions of geology and world heritage as well as the starting and finishing point of excursions, e.g. with a GeoGuide.
